Recycling Program
The Town saves thousands of dollars of your
tax money a year by recycling. Recycling saves dumping fees and doesn't add
trash to landfills. To find out what you can recycle please see a detailed list
here. Pick-up for recyclables begins at 7 a.m.
If you need a recycling
bin, contact the Public Works Department at 301-474-6897, and it will be
delivered to your house.
Yard Waste
Yard Waste includes grass, garden plant and
shrub clippings, weeds, bagged leaves, tree trunks, limbs, or branches. Branches
should not be longer than 4 feet in length, no greater than 4 inches in diameter
and tied in bundles with string or twine, not exceeding 2 ½ feet in diameter,
and weighing no more than 50 pounds. Bamboo is classified as
household waste, not yard waste, and should be set apart from all
other yard waste at the curb.
Mulch
If you are interested in mulch, the Public
Works Department can deliver it to your house. Please fill out a
mulch request form
and pay the fee at the Town Office ($5 per 3 cubic yards).
Smartleaf is
available from the City of College Park.
Appliances & Tires
Before placing large appliances or tires at
the curb for collection
you must fill out a request form and pay the
applicable fee to the Town Office ($25 for appliances, $5 for tires).
Electronics
Public Works picks up electronic equipment
on heavy trash days. Electronic equipment includes computers, computer
keyboards, computer monitors, CD and DVD players & recorders, laptop computers,
printers, stereos/radios, telephone systems, televisions, and VCRs
Hazardous Waste
The Public Works Department does not accept
hazardous waste. Residents may dispose of such waste free of charge at the
Prince George's County facility designated for that purpose located at:
11611 White House Road next to Brown

The following items are considered hazardous: ammunitions, acid
car batteries, automotive fluids and fuels, cleaning agents, cooking oil,
driveway sealers, fire extinguishers, fluorescent light bulbs, household
batteries, insecticides, herbicides and fertilizers, mercury and other
hazardous materials, oil-based paints, photographic chemicals, poisons, propane
and helium tanks, solvents, varnishes and stains, swimming pool chemicals.
